The Windows Installer
Background:
Our applications are usually delivered with a setup relying on the Windows
Installer Service. The Windows Installer needs to be installed once on
the target machine before our setup can be executed. For further
information please consult the documentation provided by Microsoft.
Is the Windows Installer already on my system?
Click on Start, Find, Files and Folders. Search for msiexec.exe.
The file should be in the system folder (i.e. "C:\Winnt\System32\").
When you find the file you have Windows Installer installed. Now check
the version...
Which Version do I have installed?
Right-click on msiexec.exe, Properties. Under Version, Product
Version you should see 2.0x.xxxx.x or higher. If the version is less you
need to download Version 2.0 and install it first. Windows XP comes with
the Installer Service 2.0 by default.
