EcoSqueeze

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is EcoSqueeze?
EcoSqueeze is a small application to defragment OLE2/Structured Storage files.
What are OLE2/Structured Storage Files?
Files which were created through a technology Microsoft introduced with OLE2. These files contain their own file system including "Storages" and "Streams". Similar to standard file systems these OLE2 files can become fragmented through frequent changes.
What does EcoSqueeze?
To remove dead content and hence make files smaller. Loading times may be reduced, when files are sent via email one saves transmission time and finally hard disc space can be released.

What else can EcoSqueeze?
EcoSqueeze can remove the preview image and display list on SolidWorks-files, so that additional space can be saved.
Which Applications create OLE2-Files?
All MS-Office-Applications (Word, Excel etc.), SolidWorks and countless other applications.
How does EcoSqueeze work?
EcoSqueeze scans the selected directory (and optionally contained sub-directories) for OLE2-files. When it finds a OLE2-file it makes a copy, defragments the copy, and if everything was successful it replaces the original file with the defragmented copy. If selected it sets the file properties (date changed, date last accessed) back to the original values.
How much does EcoSqueeze cost?
EcoSqueeze is "Freeware"!
System requirements for EcoSqueeze:
EcoSqueeze needs Win 9x*, Win Me*, NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP*. No special hardware requirements. The user must have the right to read and write to the selected files.

* These operating systems have not been tested extensively, but we are not aware of any issues which would prevent EcoPrint from working with them.
