EcoPrint

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

What is EcoPrint?
EcoPrint is a Plug-In for SolidWorks to make printing (or faxing or the creation of PDF-documents) more efficient.
Background:
Normally you would have to make sure the printer orientation matches your document's orientation, you have selected the right printer and the right paper bin for the document to be printed. For each different sheet the same tedious process needs to be completed again.
With EcoPrint you define once which sheet format gets printed on which printer along with individual settings such as resolution, scaling, paper bin etc.
Often you also may want to print to a fax or PDF-creator software, or get concept prints scaled on your local printer. In order to avoid changing the default printer properties for a different task, you can define as many "schemes" as you want and make the settings only once for concept prints, once for PDFs and so on. When you then need to print you simply select the scheme in a user-friendly dialog and your done.
Why would I need EcoPrint?
Well, basically to save time and paper as outlined in "Background" above. Further more, if you need to print several documents at once (say all drawings of an assembly) you would like EcoNorm's batch printing capability.
There are other printing tools, some are even free, why would one chose EcoPrint?
EcoPrint offers functionality not found in other, neither free nor commercial printing Add-Ins:
It supports various schemes and speeds up direct printing from open SolidWorks documents. Beyond defining the printer, scaling and orientation, it allows you to define the paper-bin, output resolution, color or b/w, number of copies, among a few other settings for each format and scheme.
In batch mode it offers a file-preview and an error-log which reports all documents on which SolidWorks reports a loading- or other error so you can quickly see which documents need to be opened manually and checked before they are printed again.
